I distinctly remember my baby shower. It was a super hot day and I was extremely pregnant. I had to set up most things myself like decorations and games.
I had the idea in my mind that at the baby shower we would be getting pretty much everything that our little boy would need, and nothing that he really wouldn’t.
Everyone of course had good intentions for their gifts to be used, and of course we appreciate all of the things we got for our son, but there are many things that I wish we would have recieved, or recieved more of instead of the little things that we didn’t use.
Thats why I made this list. Everyone wants their gifts to be not only meaningful, but useful as well. Especially for something like an baby shower.
So read on, and you’ll get tons of great ideas on what to buy for a baby shower that the baby will actually use, and mom and dad will be thankful you got for them!
Larger Size Clothing (Not Newborn)
This was something I didn’t realize until after my son was born and started growing like crazy. Newborn outfits are super cute, but SO many of them from my baby shower are packed away completely unused. My son grew out of them faster than he could wear them.

” These are awesome. Purchased for my newborn who was on the bigger side to wear overnight or in the House. He was Just under 10 pounds, 22 inches and the 0-3 month size was perfect. The zipper makes changing him super easy! They wash well and keep him warm. “
— Adam W.
If you are looking to gift clothes for a baby shower, aim for outfits that are 3-6 month is size, or even 0-3 months. Every baby is different and grows differently, but SO many people end up gifting newborn clothing that it gets overwhelming.

“A very cute set. Simple Joys clothing fits very well and, of all things, has high quality snaps! I find the quality to be so much nicer than your typical multipacks.”
— J. Anderson
Think of it like this…baby can always wear something that is a little too big for them at that time, but they can’t really wear something that is too small for them or too tight for their little shoulders and legs.

” So cute and comfy! Perfect as an extra little layer for my baby at night time when I don’t want her unswaddling her blanket. Surprisingly she can still crawl around with it on, so it’s nice for her not to feel trapped when she wakes up. “
— AmznMom
Make your money go a little farther, and parents a little more appreciative by grabbing clothes in some bigger sizes.
Binkies
My sons binky is basically an everyday accessory for him. He is constantly sucking on one if he is not nursing or drinking from his bottle. It helps him to self soothe and calm down if he is getting a little too fussy.

” Most functional pacifier out there now! Great for my breastfed baby. He actually keeps this one in his mouth!”
— Tiffany W.
Every baby is different, and the same thing rings true when it comes to infant pacifiers. Some babies prefer specific brands, and will only take that brand for an extended period of time before spitting it back out.
For my son, from the very beginning his favorite binkies have been the MAM ones. From time to time he will take other brands, but they will be out of his mouth again and on the floor in probably about five minutes.

“My Son will only take the MAM brand pacis. I swear we tried every brand. These ones have been a life saver!”
–Jenn Joelsen
At a baby shower, you really have no idea which type of pacifier a baby will prefer, so it is best to get one from a few different brands. Chances are that the baby will use and love one of them.
Bottle Warmer
Okay, now this is SERIOUSLY something that I wish we received at our baby shower. We ended up having to go out and buy one at Walmart one day after we got so tired of having to warm up bottles.
Whether the baby you are buying for will be breastfed with some supplementing, the mom will be pumping and then freezing milk, or the baby will be exclusively formula fed a bottle warmer is a smart move.

“This is the bottle warmer that I use for warming up my sons bottles. I love that there is a water measurement tool that you can refill in advance for the next feeding. It warms up bottles well and is the perfect baby shower gift!”
Lia
They are not particularly expensive, and will DEFINITELY be used regularly. Almost every baby out there prefers a warm bottle to a cold one or a room temperature one.
