Motherhood

It’s 11:25pm as I’m writing this. 11:25pm isn’t the same as it used to be, that’s for sure.

If you’ve been following the blog for a while, then you probably noticed that I haven’t posted in a little while. Why?

Motherhood. Motherhood is why.

I had my baby boy, Wesley Keith Rogers at 6:08pm August 2nd after 20 hours of labor. My water broke on it’s own at home, and after a long labor and 30 minutes of pushing with no pain meds, my little bundle of joy arrived weighing 7lb 2oz.

Birth was single handedly the most physically painful and mentally intense thing I had ever done, yet simultaneously the most beautiful and spectacularly special.

Birth is hard, but birth really is just a sprint. Motherhood is the marathon. Motherhood is the REAL challenge, with equally amazing rewards.

Wesley is almost 2 months old now, and is finally beginning to sleep through the night. Thankfully, that means that I am able to have some spare time outside of just washing myself, eating and sleeping. You know, the bare necessities.

Having more time at night means that I have more time to do things for myself, like write this blog post. Sometimes I feel bad for not reaching towards my goal of posting really regularly, but motherhood (especially breastfeeding) is all one big blur of boobs, milk, dirty diapers and a fussy baby.

Lord bless the women who have multiples. I don’t know how you survive!

The truth is though, is that motherhood changes you. It changes you for the better if you let it. All of those late night feedings, staying awake when you feel like passing out from exhaustion, the countless diaper changes, long days away from baby while you work…

It is all worth it. We are blessed in this life to shape the lives of another tiny, vulnerable version of ourselves into a beautiful human being.

I know that on this journey, I will teach him a lot. How to ride a bike, how to talk, walk and eat. But he has already (and will continue to) teach me a lot more.

And here I was thinking I knew it all. Oh no, this is just the beginning. Welcome to motherhood đŸ’›

XOXO,

Lia
